Toni Storm made an impact in 2018 when she won the second Mae Young Classic tournament, defeating Io Shirai in the finals. She decided to go to NXT UK and build up the women’s division and she did just that. She competed in the NXT UK Women’s title tournament, defeating Isla Dawn in the first round and Jinny in the second in what would be the main event. She faced Rhea Ripley in the finals and lost after a storyline injury occurred.
She vowed to get the title from Ripley by any means necessary. She defeated Charlie Morgan and Deonna Purrazzo and declared herself as the new #1 Contender. She challenged Ripley for the NXT UK Women’s title at the first-ever NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool. She defeated her after a hard-fought match, becoming only the second champion. A few weeks later, she retained her title in a rematch against Ripley, in the main event of NXT UK.
The challengers kept coming for her and Storm welcomed them one by one. Her next challenger was Jinny, a former rival of hers. They faced off in another NXT UK main event, with Storm coming out victorious. She defended her title outside of NXT UK for the first time at the Worlds Collide event, taking on NXT’s Bianca Belair and main roster’s Nikki Cross. She retained by pinning Cross. At the next Worlds Collide event, she was part of a 20-woman Battle Royal, where she managed to eliminate Vanessa Borne and Aliyah. She made it to the last 3, after which she was eliminated by Belair.
At the end of May, she faced another challenger, Nina Samuels, and retained her title against her in the main event of NXT UK. Then she entered a rivalry with Kay Lee Ray. She was on the losing side of a Six-woman Tag Team match, but rebounded with a victory over Candy Floss. At the second-ever NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff, she put her title on the line against Ray. After a competitive match, Ray prevailed, winning the title.
Storm spent some time off after the loss. She would make her return in an episode of SmackDown, during the build-up towards Survivor Series. She was part of the NXT women’s Survivor Series team. At the PPV, she had an impressive performance, but with no successful eliminations. Banks and Natalya joined forces to eliminate her. In the end, Ripley pinned Banks to win for Team NXT.
Toni Storm made history again after her big Evolution victory. She won at the first-ever NXT UK TakeOver, she is the longest-reigning NXT UK Women’s Champion, she has defended the title multiple times in main events and across the sea and her team won at Survivor Series. Now that she’s back to NXT UK division, she is looking to take back her title at TakeOver: Blackpool II in a Triple Threat match against Kay Lee Ray and Piper Niven. Needless to say, any division she steps into will be taken over by Storm.
Check with us tomorrow as we get closer to #1 with the reveal of #6.
