Congratulations to Nikki Bella! After 10 days of voting, she is crowned our Woman of the Decade, besting out Naomi and 16 other women who were in the running for this tournament.
This should come as a no surprise. Nikki Bella was the Divas Champion when WWE bridged the gap from the Divas era into the Women’s evolution era. After holding the title for 301 days, she became the longest-reigning Divas Champion in WWE history. Shortly after, the title was retired and with it Nikki’s record will remain untouched.
She had plenty of success before and after her historic title reign. She and her sister were the first and only women to main event ECW. She competed in the first-ever women’s Submission match. She defeated Beth Phoenix to win her first Divas Championship back in 2012. Shortly after she took her first wrestling break.
After an impressive return from her neck injury, Nikki Bella was involved in of some of the most intense and personal rivalries not only in the women’s division, but in the entire WWE. Her feuds with Carmella, Natalya and Maryse were a must watch back in 2016/2017. After winning her first WrestleMania match, Nikki got injured again.
She made her return in the main event of the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble match, where she eliminated 4 women: Nia Jax, Brie Bella, Carmella and Sasha Banks. She and Asuka were the last two standing, where Asuka ultimately won. This was not the last of Nikki Bella. In her final feud in WWE, she faced Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women’s Championship in the main event of their first all-women’s PPV, Evolution. She lost the match, but she walked out on a high note.
She may have retired last year, but her impact is still felt. After being active in 9/10 years of the previous decade, she is undoubtedly the woman who defined the decade and made an impact in not only one, but two eras of women’s wrestling that have led us to the current state of the women’s division. Nikki Bella is the revolution!
