Today In History: Torrie Wilson’s Only Women’s Title Match (July 11, 2002)

On this day in history, 18 years ago, Torrie Wilson received her first and only Women’s title opportunity when she faced Molly Holly. Earlier that day, Torrie was doing a photoshoot on the beach, much to the chagrin of Molly Holly, who interrupted her. The pure and wholesome champion thought she should’ve been the one to receive photoshoots and then challenged Torrie to a title match. Torrie proved to be quite capable, dominating Molly in the early going. The experienced Molly took over, showing of why she’s the champion. Torrie managed to regain momentum and as she was punching her in the corner, Molly reversed it into a Powerbomb, putting her in a submission hold which ended up being counted as a pinfall.
