Today In History: Bliss And Mella Prove To Be Extreme (July 15, 2018)

On this day in history, 2 years ago, Alexa Bliss and Carmella defended their titles at 2018 Extreme Rules PPV. The first match was for the Raw Women’s Championship, where Alexa Bliss, accompanied by Mickie James took on her arch nemesis, Nia Jax, who was backed by Natalya. The suspended Ronda Rousey was sitting at ringside, waiting for a moment to join in. The match would lead to a melee between all the women, including Rousey, who was taken out by James. The alliance allowed Bliss retain her title and safely avoid Rousey’s wrath.

The Princess of Staten Island, Carmella, defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Asuka once again. James Ellsworth, whose role in Carmella’s previous defense against Asuka, was suspended in a shark cage to prevent him from interfering in round two. Ellsworth found himself caught by the ankle as he attempted to escape the cage, and with Carmella waylaid outside, Asuka turned her attention to him, viciously kicking him. That allowed Mella to snuck up behind Asuka and shoved her face-first into the cage before pouncing quickly for the pin.
